Felicity Huffman
Born in Bedford, New York, on December 9, 1962, Felicity Huffman is the youngest of eight children, including seven daughters. As a pre-teen, she showed promise as a hopeful actress and thus was sent off to Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy, a prestigious arts school where she majored in theater.
Extremely set on being classically trained, Huffman graduated from the academy in 1981 and then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She would graduate from NYU in 1988 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Huffman made her feature film debut that same year in David Mamet’s Things Change (1998). She would later star in Mamet’s Broadway production Feed the Plow and, after befriending the director, Huffman would found the New York Atlantic Theater Company with him.
It was at this company that Huffman met William H. Macy, her future husband (they married in 1997).

Meanwhile, Huffman’s career in the 1990s was very much defined by made-for-TV movies. On her resume, these forgettable productions, including The Heart of Justice (1993) and Harrison: Cry of the City (1996), don’t stand out, but they certainly served as learning experiences.
Huffman also doubled as an occasional TV series guest star, having appeared in Law & Order, The X-Files and Chicago Hope in the ’90s. Her bread and butter then became theater, as she performed in the off-Broadway play Cryptogram and won an OBIE award in recognition of her work.

The pattern of mediocrity ended in 1997, as Huffman gained a small but solid role in the entertaining thriller, The Spanish Prisoner.
Her biggest accomplishment yet came the year later, as she was cast in Sports Night, an ABC sitcom that lasted three seasons but became a cult hit after cancellation (thanks to DVD sales).

A return to TV movies followed for Huffman, who interrupted the cycle to do the films Magnolia in 1999 and House Hunting in 2003, in addition to several episodes of Frasier.
She would get a main part in the soon-to-be-canceled Showtime original series Out of Order in 2003 as well, before starring in another film, Raising Helen, one year later.

In 2004, Huffman finally found her breakout role. Cast as Lynette Scavo in ABC’s Desperate Housewives, Huffman shone in the role of a stay-at-home mom and helped the show become one of TV’s most popular.
And when she wasn’t filming for Desperate, Huffman took time to do the holiday movie Christmas with the Kranks, which was released during Christmas 2004.

Cementing her reputation as a talented, classically-trained dramatic actress, Huffman blew away the Tribeca Film Festival with her role as a transgender woman in Transamerica.
Produced by hubby William H. Macy, the film became a tremendous critical success. In fact, Huffman added to her award-winning year — she had shared a Screen Actors Guild Award as the winner for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for Desperate Housewives — by taking home a Best Actress Award at the Tribeca festival.
In 2005, she was also nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
